The author of the JAVA gazette is Klaas Waslander, Java specialist in various areas. Klaas Waslander runs Klank W e b, a web portal with one of its members being the JAVA gazette.
Read more about Klaas Waslander in "About Klaas Waslander" at KlankWeb.com.
The JAVA gazette was first published in May 1996 at the Hogeschool Enschede *, where the author (Klaas Waslander) was studying at that time. During 1996 and 1997 the author moved to the United States for one year, during which time some additions were made and the gazette moved to another location at Marimba *.
Then the JAVA gazette was not being maintained between 1997 and 1999. After having been 'dead' for almost 2 years, it was re-started again in March 1999 with a short renewal of content and look&feel.
In November 2000 the JAVA gazette became an integral part of Waslander W e b, a range of websites maintained by Klaas Waslander. In April 2004 it was kept as an integral part of Klank W e b, the successor of Waslander W e b. the JAVA gazette fully focuses on Java, other topics are published on the other websites of Klank W e b.
December 2000: downloadsweb.net now contains all re-usable Java components available for download, including API documentation! Articles about these components should come during 2001.
January-February 2001: articles keep coming. No more empty placeholders, which was frustrating many users who were expecting an article, and found an "under construction" message.
March-April 2001: made entire website browser independent, added more articles.
May 2001: made pages more "to-the-point". Added advanced downloads of WaslanderWeb's Java software on 'downloadsweb.net', online sources and API still have to be moved to the JAVA gazette under a "products & API" section. Removed "search" and "games", search will be moved to 'klankweb.com', games was already on 'gamingweb.net'.
June 2001: introduced new "products & API" section with online sources and APIs.
April 2004: Completely reviewed all contents, and updated it according to new KlankWeb standards. Even updated oldest sections, and sections with pre-historic Apptivity information ;-)
November 2005: All content not up-to-date or fully maintained moved into "archive" section, and the rest brought up-to-date. The site is now part of restyled KlankWeb.com portal using anakia xdoc as XML source format from which the HTML pages are generated.
